Katie keeps youngsters safe on way to school
LAST week was Road Safety Week, so an appropriate time to talk to Katie Bennett, Hatherleigh's School Crossing Patrol Officer.
Katie, who has only been in this job since October, believes she may be one of the youngest school crossing ladies in the county, at only 32 years of age.
She loves her job, even though she may be standing in the pouring rain for nearly an hour, every morning and afternoon on school days.
She certainly took on the job at the worst time of the year for weather in Devon.

Katie is the mother of two children, William and Abigail, who attend Hatherleigh School and during Road Safety week, she went into the classroom to talk to the reception class pupils about her role.
She said the young children had great fun shining lights on her yellow coat with its bands of reflective material.
They also enjoyed drawing portraits of their lollipop lady.
Of course it is also the parents, many with pushchairs and toddlers, who need to be seen safely across the busy road, to meet their families in the playground.
Hatherleigh qualifies for a crossing lady, because of the number of cars which pass during a half-hour period – well over 200.
Katie is impressive with her efficiency and confidence, in a job which helps so importantly to keep Hatherleigh's youngsters safe on an extremely busy road.
