Lyndsey Baker, for the prosecution, said it was not clear from CCTV footage if Owen struck Shaxton.
Rod Ball, for the defence, said his client was "one of our brave servicemen of the Falklands".
Mr Ball told the court Owen suffered with post-traumatic stress disorder and was having flashbacks and loss of sleep.
Mr Ball said there was a slight difference of opinion of what happened at the club.
Owen grabbed Shaxton by his clothes. However, it was not clear if he was punched.
Mr Ball said: "This was not a premeditated incident. Remorse was expressed to the police."
The presiding magistrate, Judith Kauntze, fined Owen £225. He was ordered to pay £22 victim surcharge and £85 compensation.
