A LOTTERY grant has helped transform a struggling pre-school just in time for Christmas. Kings Nympton Pre-school applied for funding earlier this year as the facility was in danger of shutting due to lack of funds.

But the £10,000 they have received means the school can now run more sessions and has even had to take on extra staff. They have also bought more equipment and revamped the school's facilities with the money.

An open day was held last week to allow parents to see where the money has been spent.

Leica Lucas-Ridge, chair of the school's committee, said the money had helped transform the pre-school and allowed it to take on more children.

"Back in July things were looking pretty bad," she said. "We were having to cut sessions and because we are a committee-run school it was quite depressing.

"But everyone has worked their socks off. It was incredible. It was something we wanted to celebrate. We have been able to revamp the pre-school, re-do the floor and buy new equipment."

The pre-school will be open four days a week from January on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
