Leaderflush Shapland workers leave site for last time
LEADERFLUSH Shapland staff have left the manufacturing company's Seven Brethren factory for the last time.
Most of the 72 staff who were told in September they were to be made redundant walked off site, never to return, yesterday.

In September Leaderflush Shapland, which was bought by Laidlaw Interiors Group (LIG) in August 2011, said it had been carrying out a comprehensive review of its door manufacturing operations in Barnstaple over the past year and its Barnstaple site would stop work at the end of November.
But work has stopped earlier than that, with only a handful of workers remaining at the door manufacturing site.

A spokesman for the company said: "Most of the 72 left yesterday.
"We have been working with them for quite some time towards the final day."
The spokesman said the decision to bring forward the final day was made last week.
"Last week we envisaged that the final day would be today," he said. "But after discussions with staff yesterday it was decided it was mutually acceptable for them to finish then.
"We didn't want to prolong what has been an uncomfortable situation for them."
A "handful" of staff will continue working at the site until the end of the week, to help with the site clean-up and transfer of machinery to another Laidlaw site in Nottingham.
