A lorry driver was arrested after he drove the wrong way along a dual carriageway and collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction.

The man, aged 49, was questioned on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol on the A380 near Exeter.

The large furniture truck hit a Peugeot 205, driven by a Newton Abbot man heading home. The truck did not stop at the scene but was stopped by police ten minutes later.

The incident occurred on Telegraph Hill at about 11.20pm on Thursday, leaving the car damaged and the driver “shaken but uninjured”.

Drivers on the Torquay-bound road told officers the lorry was in the outside lane, after entering the dual carriageway from a side road.

The Peugeot car was recovered into the Haldon Chalet Café, at Kennford.

The lorry driver, from Birmingham, was yesterday being held on suspicion of dangerous driving and excess alcohol after travelling the wrong-way along a dual carriageway.
