Loss is a body blow
THE loss of fifty jobs at the Premier Foods distribution centre in our city is a body blow.
It comes hot on the heels of the announcement by the council that it is to axe 100 jobs and that more may follow. We are in a two tier financial slump in which there is a vast divide between the lives of those in work and the unemployed. Those who lose their job can face a real battle and our thoughts are very much with the Premier workers today.
It's not all bad news - we reported last week how the The Money Group plans to create 300 jobs at its new call centre. All of us should hope this can help make up for today's losses.
