Luke Friend sails through X Factor
TEIGNMOUTH teenager Luke Friend (pictured) has been living a red carpet lifestyle after he made it through to the final 10 in this year's X Factor.
Fans voted in their droves to keep the 17-year-old in the show after he sung the Passenger hit Let Her Go at the weekend.
And the youngster was out with the stars at the premiere of Thor 2 in London this week.
The budding star, who attends Coombeshead Academy, belted out his number complete with a selection of boats on stage.
Judge Sharon Osbourne said she had a soft spot for the teenager and said he was 'fabulous'.
She then questioned why his mentor, Louis Walsh, had the boats on the stage.
In reply Louis said 'because he's sailing through to next week'.
Judge Gary Barlow also said he liked Luke's voice and his quirkiness.
"I love your edge," he said.
"I like the rocky side of you and I want to see that."
His mentor seemed happy with Luke's performance.
"To me it's about his voice and you didn't just do the original version (of the song)," said Louis.
After his performance, Luke told host Dermot O'Leary he loves the hit.
"I went out there and did it to the best of my ability," he said.
Just before he sang, a fun video tape showing Luke speaking to his mum Sue Potts on the phone was shown.
Contestant Shelley Smith, who went to school in Teignmouth, was voted off the competition on Sunday night.
She sung for survival against band Kingsland Road, but the judges decided to send her home.
"I've had the time of my life," she said after the sing off.
