The project is part of a package of highway, public transport and cycling measures that will open up the Exeter and East Devon Growth Point, which includes not only the science park, but also a freight facility, the £270m Skypark business development and a new town at Cranbrook.

Mr Baker was the guest of honour at last Tuesday's opening ceremony.

Mr Baker praised the team behind the project.

"Team work is essential to the success of a transport project on this scale and can only be achieved by working together," he said.

"Job creation is obviously very high up on the coalition Government's agenda so the completion of these works comes at an appropriate time. This brings a boost to the region's economy and is a good example to see what can be achieved. It's been an ambitious and efficient programme which I'm pleased to see has been delivered on time."

Ian Guy, senior development manager for St Modwen, a partner of Devon County Council on the Skypark development, said the completion of the link road was the final part of infrastructure improvements for the multi-million pound business park.

He said: "Occupiers can clearly see all the roads are now in place."
