Mebyon Kernow has admitted their performance in the general election was disappointing after failing to secure a significant increase in votes.

The Cornish nationalists secured fewer than 5,400 votes across the six seats in the county.

Party leader Dick Cole won 2,000 of them in St Austell and Newquay alone.

Loveday Jenkin, who won 775 votes in Camborne and Redruth, said: "We are proud to have fought a positive campaign across the whole of Cornwall.

"As a consequence, we suffered a massive squeeze by the main parties," she added.

"Party members throughout Cornwall found considerable goodwill for MK on the doorstep and support for our policies – such as fair funding for Cornwall."
