MP supports system that aids suppliers
NORTH Devon MP Nick Harvey, has backed the new grocery adjudication system that will be able to fine supermarkets who deal unfairly with their suppliers.
The system is expected to start operating next year. The adjudicator will be able to fine big firms that are considered to be acting improperly.
Mr Harvey said: "Too often, the farmer or small supplier is squashed under the might of the major supermarkets that dominate our daily shopping.
"The food industry plays an important role in economic growth, and the Groceries Code Adjudicator will help to ensure that the market is operating in a fair way.

"Large supermarkets generally provide consumers with low prices and variety whilst providing business for farmers and suppliers. But where supermarkets are breaking the rules with suppliers and treating them unfairly, the adjudicator will make sure that they are held to account."
