Man arrested in Sidmouth hotel murder probe
A murder investigation has been launched in Devon after a man died at a seaside hotel.
Devon and Cornwall Police were called to the Black Horse Inn in Sidmouth shortly after 10pm last night following reports a man had been assaulted.
A 71-year-old man later was pronounced dead at scene.
A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death and is being held in Exeter.
A hotel employee this morning confirmed to the Western Morning News that police investigations are ongoing at the 30 Fore Street location in the town centre.
The employee, who asked not to be named, added: "Everyone is pretty shook up about it."
The employee could not say where the dead man was from but did say that he had checked into the hotel earlier this week.
It is understood that the man was visiting the area and next of kin are currently being sought by police.
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said a 41-year-old local man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.
“We believe this is an isolated incident,” the force spokesman said.
“We understand news of this incident will be troubling for many in the Sidmouth area and to reassure local people there will be some extra officers on patrol in the town.”
