A man has been taken to hospital with burns to his hands after a cooker fire at a house in North Devon.

Two fire crews from Barnstaple were alerted to the incident at Park Villas, Bishops Tawton, shortly before midnight on Monday.

Firefighters found a small fire involving a pan and a cooker had started in the kitchen of the property. It was out when they arrived.

One man, who had suffered steam burns to his hand, was taken to hospital.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
