Man released without charge in fire probe

A 33-year-old man who was arrested in connection with a fire in Torquay at the weekend has been released without charge.

Police and firefighters were called to a rubbish fire next to a shop in Tor Hill Road shortly before 7am on Sunday.

Devon and Cornwall Police said that a baby from a nearby property was taken to hospital as a precaution but was later discharged.

The 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson but later released.

The force said no further action would be taken against him.

An investigation is taking place into the cause of the blaze and detectives have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
