The Fire Service were called to assist ambulance crews with the rescue of a man who had fallen on the Tarka Trail, at Pottington Road in Barnstaple.

A special rescue team from Barnstaple was mobilised to this incident.  Crews assisted ambulance service personnel with the man, who was lifted onto a long board then carried by stretcher to a waiting road ambulance.

The Tarka Trail is a 30-mile cycling and walking route between Braunton and Meeth, named after the novel Tarka the Otter (1927) by Henry Williamson.
