Man seriously injured in fire

Firefighters brought a seriously injured man out of a burning house in Somerset as flames tore through the building and shot through the roof.

Five pumps were sent to tackle the blaze at the property, in Minehead.

The alarm at Bowsprit Close was raised at 11.15pm on Friday.

Clouds of acrid smoke covered the area. Within minutes they found the man and brought him out. He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital.

His condition was not know last night but he was said to have been seriously hurt. Fire crews worked long into the early hours to quell the flames and later to dampen down.

The property was left completely damaged and a building inspector was drafted in to assess the building before fire chiefs could begin an investigation.
