Marching to success
A BARNSTAPLE group is celebrating after being awarded the top prize at the South West Youth Marching Band Championships.
Barnstaple Town Youth Marching Band beat off competition from across the region to come out top at the event held at Wyvern Barracks in Exeter.
The competition saw the group complete a ten minute display while under the gaze of the four military judges.
The group were awarded their prize by Sir John Cave Bt DL, the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Devon.

Despite regular display performances, the event was the first such competition the group has entered since it was founded in 2005.
Joy Cann, band co-ordinator, said: "I'm very, very proud. Because we are a marching band they do a lot of display work, but obviously they had to get this one perfect – which they did.
"We all work hard, but on the day the kids were the ones who went out there and did it.
"They were incredible."
