LARRY SPEARE DEVON WEDNESDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION UCP Marjon (III)…4 Plymouth Dukes (A)…2

MARJON strengthened their bid to finish third in the Premier with a 4-2 win over rivals Dukes.

In the only fixture to survive in wet and misty conditions in the top division, both sides deserve credit for serving up an entertaining encounter.

Dukes opened the scoring on 15 minutes with James Fergie netting with a header from a corner.

Marjon put in a strong second half display with Adam Smietanka levelling matters with a typical poacher's goal before Dan Smith gave Marjon the lead again with a far post header.

Dukes parity when, after Ollie Sealey was fouled in the box, Gagan Famar stroked home a penalty.

Marjon sealed the points with two late goals from Matt Clem, in a one-on-one with the Dukes' 'keeper, and Smith.

DIVISION ONE City Police (B)…1 Lipson Community College…6

LIPSON completed the double over Police with an identical 6-1 score as their earlier encounter this season.

Despite a difficult surface, Lipson started brightly and were rewarded when Edwards fired home from long-range.

Police applied pressure but Lipson continued to move the ball around and made it 2-0 when Philips headed home from a corner.

On the stroke of half-time Edwards got his second and Lipson's third with a well struck shot. Police started the second half in barnstorming fashion and deservedly pulled a goal back.

Lipson responded with more flowing football and got a fourth when an Oades shot took a deflection on its way into the net. Police came back strongly again only to concede a fifth, allowing Edwards to complete his hat-trick.

Lipson rounded off the scoring when Tippett followed up to drive home.

YMCA Discovery College…6 Devonport High School (A)…2

BOTH sides missed chances before Henry Tank gave Devonport a first half lead with a well-taken strike.

YMCA dealt with the heavy conditions much better in the second half to go 3-1 up courtesy of goals from Ryan Yeoman (2) and Ryan Campbell.

Justin Grinsill reduced Devonport's deficit only for Yeoman to complete his hat-trick. Two goals in the last 10 minutes put YMCA out of sight with Tom Box marking his debut with the first and Tyler Gorman bagging number six.

University (V)…4 HMS Raleigh…3

AS EXPECTED this top of the table clash was a close run affair with leaders University edging it by the odd goal in seven.

Uni got on top from the start and went ahead with Brad Farnham slotting home.

Raleigh soon levelled before Chris Haveran put Uni back in front with a header after a shot had come back off the crossbar.

Raleigh grabbed an early second half goal to square matters again only for Haveran to get his second with a free-kick that took a deflection off a Raleigh defender.

With Raleigh going in search of an equaliser, Rory Curtain sprung the offside trap to make it 4-2 in Uni's favour.

Raleigh stuck to their task and pulled a goal back but Uni held on to seal three valuable points.

Devonport High School (B)…2 29 Commando…0

DUTIES meant that Commandos had to field a scratch side, but take nothing away from Devonport who went on to record their first win of the season. In boggy conditions Devonport led 1-0 at half-time through Tony Grazier before Ed Neeves sealed a morale-boosting victory with a penalty midway through the second.
