Police say they have now traced a seriously injured man's next of kin after an appeal to the public.

Richard Charles Towers, from the Willeys Avenue area of Exeter, was seriously injured in a collision on Marsh Barton Road in Exeter.

Officers have also repeated their appeal for witnesses to come forward, particularly the driver of a white car travelling towards Alphington Road.

Mr Towers was seriously injured in the collision with a red Nissan Primera outside the Vospers car garage on Marsh Barton Road at 6pm on Wednesday, February 15.

A police spokesperson said: "The vehicle is described as similar to an older square-shaped saloon car.

"It is believed that the driver may be able to provide an eye-witness account of the incident and may have left the scene without realising the severity of the collision."

Mr Towers man, who was born in 1963, was rushed to the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital with serious head and leg injuries.

He was then transfered to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

A police spokesperson said: "The incident occurred around 40 metres from the junction with Trusham Road near to the Vospers car garage."

"A red Nissan Primera was travelling along Marsh Barton Road towards Alphington road when it collided with a male pedestrian."

Marsh Barton Road in Exeter was closed between the Exton Road junction and Seven Stars traffic lights until 2am on Thursday to allow police investigators to examine the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Police on 101, quoting log number 576 of 15/02/12.
