Mayor's cash handed out to good causes
TORBAY'S mayor has announced who will be getting half of his first year's salary.
Gordon Oliver is giving away £30,000 to successful recipients of the mayor's fund who attended a special ceremony in Oldway Mansion.

Mr Oliver has pledged £30,000, half his annual salary for the next four years to give one-off support to groups, organisations and individuals in the Bay.
Mr Oliver said: "I believe passionately in community involvement and see this as a way not only of giving back to the community but also ensuring local people are involved in local matters.

“Wouldn't it had been more appropriate for the Council to have paid Oliver half the salary to start with (plenty to live on) and for them to have paid out to the good causes?”

I imagine the remaining £600 a week will supplement your pension and other public purse payments enabling you to keep the wolf from the door.”
