FUNNYMAN of the moment Michael McIntyre has equalled the record for the biggest show in Plymouth Pavilions history.

The posh stand-up has announced a fifth date to his 2012 tour to share the title with fellow comedian Lee Evans.

Hyper-energetic Evans became the top performer since the city venue opened 20 years ago when he played five successive nights last month.

Now McIntyre has matched the total by adding an additional show on August 19 after the four previous nights sold out.

There is speculation that the Live At The Apollo star might take the record outright with night number six if tickets for the new date are snapped up.

"The battle is certainly on between these two comics," said Pavilions marketing officer Robert Maltby.

"I don't think we have ever seen demand like this before, even after the performances have sold out.

"Comedy is certainly the business to be in at the moment. By the time Michael hits the stage in 2012 he will have sold 12,710 tickets.

"The big question is will Michael add a sixth date to steal Lee's crown?"

Tickets for the latest gig go on sale tomorrow at 10am (0845 146 1460 or plymouthpavilions.com).
