McLemen joins paid ranks on Holiday Inn bill
Plymouth's Harry McLemen marks his pro debut with an international match-up against Milan Tomas as a programme of martial arts returns to the city later this month.
In a co-promotion between Plymouth pair Jimmy Hamilton and Danny MacMillan, mixed martial arts and Muay Thai come together to make a 12-bout fightfest at the city's Holiday Inn on Sunday, February 26.
The event, called 'Throwdown' will again combine locally-trained and based martial arts competitors, who will be testing themselves against counterparts from around the United Kingdom.
Taurus Club chief Hamilton said the bill reflected the growing interest in MMA, jiu jitsu and also the continued strength in depth of Muay Thai and kick-boxing in the city.
He said: "I'm really pleased that Danny and myself have pooled our resources and gone for a co-promotion.
"After all, the main purpose of this type of event is to show off the best operators in whatever style or discipline they favour in our area and beyond.
"And on this show, I believe, has got the mix just about right, with youth and experience being given their chance to put what they've practiced in training into performance mode.
"It promises to be exciting, fast and unpredictable and I'm really looking forward to it."
Light-heavyweight McLeman, of the MacMillans martial arts studio, boasts a 'good, amateur career, and will meets Czech Republic's Tomas over three, five-minute rounds.
The mixed bag of styles continues with Taurus' Bart Oruda (pictured top) bidding to see off the threat of Andy Willis, of St Austell's Kore Gym, in a middleweight bout.
Taurus lightweight Greg Reeves is matched with Somerset opponent Neil Owen, of the KJ2 Gym, while the duo's respective stable-mates, Plymouth's Kennan Fowlie and the cider county's Sean Smallbones, also meet in a lightweight encounter.
Also on the bill, middleweights Dane Wakeham, of Taurus and KJ2's Mark Ogden meet, while welterweights Ross Lockhart, MacMillans and Bridgwater gym All or Nothing's Paul Carrott clash.
Carrott holds a decision over Lockhart, but the Plymouth fighter is said to have improved since their previous meeting in 2012 and badly wants to gain revenge for that setback.
MacMillan middleweight Harley Unwin takes on Kore Gym's Dean Willis, while the headliner's younger brother Jake McLemen, also makes his debut on the show, in a heavyweight clash with KJ2's Toby Harris.
The Thai side of the bill features a couple of all-Plymouth bouts.
Taurus light-welterweights James Thompson squares up to St James Academy's Montana Attard and the same two clubs, respectively, provide a welterweight contest between Aaieron Orme and Louis Aitken.
Taurus' Rohan Allen is scheduled to meet a Welsh opponent Impact Gym's Amir Ghaarit in a middleweight bout.
Adam McGrath, of Mutley-based Taurus, is awaiting the name of his next opponent.
TICKETS are priced at £40 (seated VIP), adults £25 and £15 under 16. Doors open at 4pm, with the first bell at 5pm.
