Milford goes fourth with new half-marathon best

TEIGNBRIDGE Trotter Daryl Milford was fourth home in a new personal best time of 1.17.56 in the inaugural Exeter Half-Marathon.

The new race was run on a pancake flat three-lap course alongside the Exeter Canal.

Milford charged into the finish line two minutes faster than his previous best to finish third senior male.

Next through the finish was Lance Mason in 1.23.25 and 14th, picking up first V50. Wavell Vigers was 16th in 1.23.40 and Simon Booyber 35th in 1.28.46.

Emma Sidebotham brought the lady racers back in a personal best of 1.35.49 and 59th.

Other results: Gary Clark 63rd in 1.36.05, Mark Hutchins 1.36.18 and 67th, Mark Hamling 1.36.37 and 71st, Craig Churchill 1.41.10 and 106th, Jacki Woon 1.41.46 and 112th, Peter Royle 114th with 1.41.56, Becky George 1.46.23 and 140th, Neil Pallant 1.47.34 in 150th, Sharon Bowman 1.49.50 and 161st, Kevin Besford 170th in 1.52.18, Guy Roberts 1.54.04 and 177th, Tim Hartley 2.02.01 and 211st, Katrina Duignan 223rd in 2.05.33 and newcomer Sharon Hutchins 2.06.11 and 225th .

TORBAY AC's Wendy Urban finished a creditable 41st overall as well as second lady and first lady veteran in the Exeter Half-Marathon. Urban went around the footpaths and cycle tracks in 1.31.51.

This Sunday is the Plymouth Hoe 10 miler, when Torbay will have more than 20 members running .

SEVEN South Devon AC athletes ran the Exeter Half-Marathon, including husband-and-wife team Ian and Val Mc Clean.

Conditions looked ideal for personal best times and so it proved for six of the South Devon contingent.

First back was Ian McClean, 32nd in 1.27.59. Next came V65 runners Keith Belt (52nd in 1.34.30), then Marc Jones (127th,1.43.51), Ryan Rudge (158th 1.49.00 ), Valerie McClean (175th 1.53.43); V65 John Barrett 184th, 1.55.05 and Lisa Jefferey (195th 1.57.56).

TWO Dawlish coasters took part in the Exeter Half-Marathon. Simon Bunday completed the course in 1.46 and new club member Maria Trylska finished in 2.27.

Around 268 runners completed the course, which was organised by Ironbridge Runner.

HALDON Trail Runner Nicki Ashworth finished the Exeter Half-Marathon in 1.56.13. Meanwhile in Florida, club member Nathan White competed in the Miami Beach 5K, finishing strongly in 19.41.

KATY George sped to victory at Exeter Arena on Monday night in round four of the Winter 3k Series.

George won the D race in 12.51, well ahead of mum Becky who was sixth in 13.35. Julie Crocker (14.39) came 13th.

Lance Mason, back from recent injury, posted a strong time of 10.56 in the A race, John Crocker ran 11.39 in the B race and was 13th.
