Minister says MoD spent £2.7m on paper
The Ministry of Defence spent £2.78 million on paper in a 12-month period, it has been revealed.
Under the Central Government Office Supplies Contract (GOSC) from October 1, 2011 to September 30, 2012, MoD expenditure on paper was £2.78 million, excluding VAT, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology Philip Dunne said.
The answer was given in response to a written parliamentary question from shadow defence minister Alison Seabeck, MP for Plymouth, Moor View, who asked what amount was spent by the MoD on copier paper in each of the last three years and what assessment had been made of the value for money.
In a statement, Mr Dunne said it was expected that the economies of scale afforded by the centralised (GOSC) will, in time, offer better value for money than previous MoD specific contracts.
