A REPORT of a ‘pink UFO’ in Mannamead was among 300 unexplained sightings examined by the Ministry of Defence last year.

The account of the sighting at 8.20pm on September 3 says there was a floating ‘large bright pink light’ from which ‘two small pieces’ broke off.

The viewer then reports that it ‘accelerated and disappeared’.

According to an official report just released to the public by the MoD, other strange occurrences included a ‘very bright light’ which ‘zig zagged across the sky’ in Millbrook and Torpoint, last May.

Four reports of weird lights were also received from Delabole in Cornwall, and there was a bizarre sighting in Exeter where a UFO was ‘flying around’ at ‘about 250mph’ looking like it was ‘having trouble keeping in control’.

The report was released this week as a Herald reader reported another trange sighting in the skies above Plymouth.

The man, who does not wish to be named, was travelling from Exeter to Plymouth at 8.30pm on Monday, February 2 with friends when they saw a light in the sky.

He said: "I was with two work colleges on our way back form Exeter, when we saw a

bright white light in the sky moving in diferent directions very

quickly.

"This was from Buckfast to Plymouth and vanished after turning blue/green over Mount Batten."

The group filmed the light on a mobile phone.

The MoD said reports of UFOs are examined ‘solely to establish whether UK airspace may have been compromised by hostile or unauthorised military activity’.

It said that unless there is evidence of a potential threat, no further work is undertaken to identify the nature of each sighting reported.

The MoD’s website said: “The Ministry of Defence has no other interest or role regarding UFO matters and does not consider questions regarding the existence or otherwise of extraterrestrial life-forms.”

All 300 sightings are reported at www.mod.uk.

    “Follow up to previous message.
Ok, I think that I have found the pathetic film footage on the internet (that isnt playing on this site)
and it wasn't anything like this that we saw. What we saw was at (dare I say) usual lowish helecopter altitude, maybe twice the size of a twin engine Boing chinook, as you proberbly know those things kick out a hell of a din, 8 of them would have made a right noise, but not a sound.”

I guess it depends on if they have a politically correct skin tone. If they have a German accent they definitely will not be allowed in.”

“I can't see the film footage as it isn't working.
However, 10.30pm last night 29/8/09 there were 8 bright orange red lights travelling from the West to the East over Eggbuckland, they were well spaced out 4 of them were in a square formation the rest of them were in a straight line, 1 of them changed direction to the South and lost altitude and speed. No sound at all was heard and no flashing lights like an airplane would have.
I have no interest in sensationalising or talking rubbish, I would however like to know if anyone else has seen the objects other than my self my wife and my children.
Maybe you could let us in on what they were? Thanks.”

It's the reflection of the street lamp on the camera lens!”

“As a man with 50 years study of UFO's, 40 years as a photographer and 6 as a photo lab manager, I say it's lens flare caused by shooting into a bright light. This should be apparent, as the UFO moves inversely to the street light when the camera moves. The "pinkness" is caused by an optical flaw called "coma" in the lens.
Why is everyone so desperate to see a UFO that they keep mistaking commonplace phenomena for them? And BTW, I am not a debunker or a skeptic, just a person with a very low tolerance for lousy pix like this. I've seen far too many recently!”

“Open letter from me to Prime Minister Brown-
I am writing as an extremely concerned taxpayer regarding the recent unprovoked attack by a UFO on a wind turbine in Lincolnshire.
What assurances can you give that our existing RAF interception doctrine is adequate to prevent the recurrence of such a disturbing incident?
As you may know, UFO's are also in the habit of abducting people and subjecting them to highly improper medical examinations, so I trust you will appreciate my anxiety at how these alien craft are apparently free to violate UK airspace at will without being engaged by the Royal Air Force.”
