Morecambe complete home hat-trick of games against Devon clubs
MORECAMBE will complete a hat-trick of home games against Devon clubs to start the season when they host Argyle at the Globe Arena tomorrow.
The Shrimps opened their League Two campaign with a 1-0 defeat at Wycombe Wanderers before they drew 1-1 with Torquay United on August 10.
Karl Hawley grabbed a 55th minute equaliser for Torquay after Ryan Williams (see One to Watch) had put the home side into a first half lead.
Morecambe then lost 3-0 at Portsmouth, with defender Andy Wright sent off for a second bookable offence in the 36th minute.
Kevin Ellison then scored twice to secure the Shrimps' first win of the season when they triumphed 2-0 against previously unbeaten Exeter last Saturday.
That fixture was watched by only 1,539 fans, compared to the 5,375 when Morecambe put up a brave fight before losing 2-0 to Newcastle United in the League Cup second round at the Globe Arena on Wednesday.
Late goals from brothers Shola and Sammy Ameobi sent the Premier League visitors into the third round.
However, Newcastle were indebted to two goal-line clearances from former Argyle midfielder Dan Gosling in the first half.
Ellison and 20-year-old Jack Sampson, who was released by Bolton Wanderers at the end of last season, troubled Newcastle's defence all game with their physical strength.
