THE awful moment the mother of Ryan King realised her son had been killed was relived at the trial of his accused murderer this week.

The jury at Exeter Crown Court heard the evidence this week in the trial of Raymond Dupree, 68, who is accused of murdering his great-nephew, Ryan, with a wine glass.

He is accused of stabbing Ryan in the neck, at Ryan's mum's 40th birthday party at Snurridge House, Aller Cross, last August.

The court heard Dupree swore at police when he heard the distressed screams of his niece, Lisa Wilson, at North Devon District Hospital.

Dupree was under police guard being treated for a cut in the hospital, while just feet away his niece could be heard in a terrible state of distress, having just learnt her son had died.

Dupree said: "Oh I haven't killed the bugger have I?"

He also said to officers that he didn't mean to hurt his great-nephew, who meant the world to him, and that "it was just a family fallout."

Ryan, 20, bled to death after his uncle slashed him with the wine glass and walked out, later claiming he was the one who had sustained the worst injuries. But he later found out Ryan had died when he heard his mother screaming: "No no, not my baby," in the room next to him at North Devon District Hospital.
