Motorcyclist hurt in Exeter crash awarded £1.8m
A motorcyclist left gravely disabled after smashing broadside into a car which cut across his path has been awarded £1,825,000 compensation after settling his damages claim.
Chris Hennessy, 56, of Bishop Westall Road, Exeter, collided head first with a Ford Fiesta on October 29, 2007.
He suffered devastating head and other injuries in the crash on Cowley Bridge Road, Exeter, which left him largely confined to a wheelchair and in need of a lifetime of care.
He sued for damages and the car driver's insurers admitted liability in May 2008.

Yesterday Mrs Justice Cox, sitting at London's High Court, approved a lump-sum payment of £1,825,000 to settle Mr Hennessy's claim.
Andrew Granville Stafford, his barrister, told the court he had suffered a "very serious accident" that had left him with ongoing disabilities. The car had turned right from a major road onto a minor one, "without any or proper regard for oncoming traffic", he added.
Mrs Justice Cox, approving the payout, said: "I am delighted to say that this settlement is wholly proper and is very much in Mr Hennessy's best interests."
