Motorway lorry fire causes traffic chaos

Rush-hour commuters on the M5 in Devon faced serious delays yesterday morning after a lorry fire between Cullompton and Exeter.

Police and fire crews were alerted to the southbound carriageway between Cullompton and Exeter at 5.44am.

The motorway was closed while fire crews from Cullompton, Middlemoor and Danes Castle, attended and a 40mph speed limit was set up.

Officers doused the blaze, which destroyed the trailer unit and its contents, using two jets.
