Mugger injures 83-year-old Exeter woman in bag robbery

An elderly woman suffered a suspected broken leg and cuts to her face after she was shoved to the ground by a handbag thief in broad daylight.

The robbery happened between 9.30am and 10am yesterday morning in Willey's Avenue, off Alphington Road, Exeter.

The victim, an 83-year-old woman, had just got off a bus and was walking home when she was approached by a stranger who pushed her to the floor and stole the contents of her handbag.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said the woman suffered a suspected fractured femur and lacerations to her face and head. She was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital for treatment.
