NFU secretary earns Salter Shield
THE secretary of Devon's group of the NFU, Shirley Smith, has won the Salter Shield for her work on behalf of the county's farmers.
And at a national awards dinner she was also honoured with a "high achiever" award in recognition of outstanding achievement and excellence in membership retention and recruitment.

"I did feel like we'd had a good year but I certainly didn't expect to win," said Shirley.
"It's always difficult managing our time and it's very much a team effort.
