Sarah Jones, from Lipson Community College, said: "Professional development is a way of ensuring that students at the college receive the very best education.

"The report comments on the way that staff at all levels collaborate and work together effectively to create a truly meaningful dialogue that focuses on the needs of every child.

"The report recognises the thriving partnerships that Lipson has with local primary schools and comments on the outstanding links and work that is undertaken with higher education and with parents."

Assessor Graham Rollinson recognised the importance placed on the co-operative values and how those are used to deliver excellence.

The report states: "This is a college where feedback is actively sought and welcomed as part of improvement and professional development processes.

"The college places a high expectation on staff being responsible for personal and professional development and recognises the importance this has in raising standards for young people.

"The college provides value for money by making the most of course, in-house training; mentoring and coaching; on-line training programmes; and invests heavily in post graduate development."

Steve Baker, principal of Lipson Community College, said: "In today's globalised world the pace of change is rapid.

"This means all our staff need to be constantly learning and developing new skills.

"The CPD Mark is testament to the quality of our training programmes which keep us at the cutting edge. Congratulations to all those involved."
