Queens Park Rangers central defender Ryan Nelsen was yesterday appointed head coach by Major League Soccer club Toronto FC – but has not yet left the Barclays Premier League strugglers. The 35-year-old New Zealand international will replace former Plymouth Argyle head coach Paul Mariner, who was dismissed on Monday, at the helm at the Canadian side and will hold talks with QPR manager Harry Redknapp about the timing of his exit from Loftus Road, where he is under contract until the end of the season.

QPR have released Kieron Dyer just days after the midfielder scored his first goal for the club. He made just eight appearances in all competitions for QPR.
