Newton Abbot family's escape as branch falls on car
A FAMILY of three escaped unhurt after the branch of a tree crashed down on to their car.
The large branch fell on their grey Ford Focus, closing both carriageways on the A382 Newton Abbot to Stover road at White Hills at 9.54am on, Monday.
The couple, with a young child, were safely out of their car by the time Newton Abbot fire crews arrived at the scene.
At the same time police received a call from a member of the public about a pair of dead or injured deer at Forches Cross, on the same road towards Stover and Trago Mills.

When police arrived one deer was already dead and the other was still alive.
A vet was called to treat the injured animal.
One fire engine from Newton Abbot attended the tree branch incident and on arrival crews confirmed no one was trapped within the vehicle and made the scene safe.
Station officer Phil Scammells said: "Police were there when we arrived and there was a couple with a young child who were out and free of the vehicle. They were not injured."
