THERE are still two weeks left to nominate Devon businesses and individuals in this year's Countryside Alliance Awards.

Nicknamed "The Rural Oscars", everyone who supports rural produce, businesses and community life is urged to nominate those who have made a difference and helped boost morale in the countryside.

A spokesman said: "The awards, now in their sixth year, are the Countryside Alliance's annual celebration of rural life and people.

"Voted for by the public, they applaud those who routinely go the extra mile for their community and help to sustain life and business in the countryside. "Nominations have been flooding in since September and voters have until late October to tell us their favourites."

The award categories include prizes for the best village shop and post office, best butcher, and the chance to nominate the rural hero of 2010 in an under 16 category and 16 and older.

Awards director Jill Grieve said: "The Rural Oscars have a feelgood factor that gives a boost to everyone involved.

"I would urge everyone to get voting."
