North Devon clinic to feature in fly-on-the-wall documentary
The sexual health of patients at a North Devon clinic is to be laid bare in a TV documentary.
The clinic, based at Tiverton and District Hospital, will feature in the fourth episode of BBC 3 fly on the wall series, Unsafe Sex in the City on Wednesday, October 23.
The series focuses on the efforts of healthcare professionals in Devon and elsewhere to tackle sexually transmitted infections and on young people's attitudes to relationships, sex and sexual health.
In the episode to be broadcast this week, Young Farmers Club members Dan and Oli are shown going for their first ever check-up at the satellite clinic in Tiverton, which is run by the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust.
The patients are seen by senior nurse Laurance Druiff, who is interviewed about the clinic and the services on offer.
Dr Sophia Davies, consultant in sexual health and HIV medicine, said it was important to explode some myths in the area of sexual health.
“Taking part in the documentary has really helped us to raise awareness of sexual health, promote our clinics and show young people the friendly, approachable service they can expect if they visit us,” she said.
“Our weekly clinic in Tiverton offers free and confidential advice on a range of sexual health issues, including STIs and contraception.
Anyone in the area who has any concerns about their sexual health, is invited to drop in to the Tiverton clinic between 4pm and 7pm on a Wednesday or pre-book an appointment by calling 01392 284982 or 284983.
