Nurses go on the run in race for the Hospice
TWO nurses who work at North Devon Hospice are the latest to sign up for its annual Santa Fun Run.
Donna Bateman and Cathy Pile know better than most how the money raised from the event supports work carried out at the hospice.
Cathy said: "We saw all the photos of the run from last year and it looked amazing with so many Santas running through Barnstaple.
"We said we would definitely take part next year, and now it's time to keep true to our word.
"It will be a great day and we are really looking forward to it. There is nothing like it in the area, so I hope lots of other people join us to have fun and support the hospice."
And Donna said: "As we are nurses at the hospice, we see how much the hospice means to people every single day.
"I know from personal experience that the care and support given is invaluable to so many people.
"I am taking part in the Santa Fun Run to show my support and in honour of the patients and families we help care for."
The Santa Fun Run, which is hosted by Barnstaple's Football and Rugby Clubs, takes place on Sunday, December 5.
Participants can either follow the usual two-mile route or can take on the new three-mile challenge.
Rebecca Worth, from the hospice's fundraising team, said: "Nurses like Donna and Cathy care for people every day who are suffering from the impact of a life-threatening illness.
"If you can support the hospice, you will be helping to make a real difference to the lives of local people.
"It's up to you whether you walk, run or jog round.
"Last year we had people pushing prams along the route and people walking their dogs, complete with doggy Santa hats, so this really is an event for everyone."
The run costs £10 to enter, which includes a free Santa suit and refreshments.
