Oil tanks on fire in Kingsbridge
Firefighters from Kingsbridge, Salcombe, Modbury and Totnes and the water bowser from Torquay were called out to a South Hams address following reports that a domestic oil tank was alight.
On arrival at the home in Gerston Lane, West Alvington, near Kingsbridge, the fire crews discovered four oil tanks.
Further crews from Modbury and Ivybridge were mobilised with the incident command support vehicle and support from Totnes.
Crews used four breathing apparatus, one main jet, one hose reel jet and one compressed air foam jet using ten litres of foam.
The domestic heating oil tanks and two thousand litres of oil were severely damaged by the fire.
The fire on Monday August 26 also spread to a wooden fence and an area of driveway and hedgerow but was quickly contained.
One woman was treated at the scene by ambulance personnel for minor smoke inhalation.
