PHOTOS: Residents commemorate 1646 Battle of Torrington
TORRINGTON went back in time to commemorate the last major battle of the first English Civil war at the weekend.
People donned their costumes to march through the town brandishing muskets and flaming torches on Saturday in memory of the Torrington 1646 battle.

More than 17,000 men fought on Torrington’s streets during the 17th Century battle. It ended with the town’s church, which was used as a powder store, being blown up which killed many people and destroyed a lot of the town.
People in the procession marched through Torrington to the beat of drums to lay a wreath to remember those who lost their lives.
