PLYMOUTH Diving have hailed the 2012 Armada Cup 'the best ever'.

The annual four-day competition climaxed at the Central Park pool on Sunday.

Plymouth Diving assistant coach Fito Gutierrez said: "The event was fantastic. It was the best Armada Cup ever, which is important.

"Every year it gets bigger and more hectic, but that's good. The Mayflower was full every day. It's the best junior event in the country, really.

"The organisation was superb. We've got a great set of volunteers and fans, without which it would be impossible to run.

"Everyone going away said they wanted to come back and were asking about next year's event at the Life Centre, and what it will be like.

"It will be bigger and better. We're really looking forward to it."

Star Plymouth Diving performers on days three and four of the cup were Shanice Lobb and Kayleigh Sinclair, supported by Jenny Bunsell, Matthew Dixon, Ollie Piper and Aidan Heslop.

Lobb took gold in the girls' B 1metre final ahead of Sinclair in the silver medal position and Bunsell in bronze, in a city one-two-three.

Dixon won the gold in the boys' C platform final.

Gutierrez said: "All the strongest teams were there like Leeds and Crystal Palace, and we showed them how strong we are, which is important. You want to do that. It was really good.

"The most important thing was to measure where Shanice and Kayleigh are at the moment, because we're looking to get them into the junior world championships and junior Europeans.

"Our aim is to get them on that stage as soon as possible. We believe they're both good enough."
