This
event is free to parent carers of children and young people aged 0 to 25 with
additional needs and we pay for most childcare and travel costs. Makaton is a language programme which uses
signs and symbols to help people communicate and it is designed to support
spoken language. As almost everything we
do relies on our ability to communicate parent carers decided that a Makaton workshop
would prove very useful and Penny Bacon, who is a teacher at Pathfield school
and a qualified makaton teacher, has kindly offered to lead the morning
workshop.
A
free lunch will then follow prior to the start of the afternoon workshop which
is designed to address the need for more information and help on managing, and
understanding, Challenging Behaviour. Sally
Barber, who is a Community Psychiatric Nurse specialising in ADHD and Helen
Verral, who is an Occupational Therapist who specialises in sensory
integration, have kindly volunteered to run this workshop and they plan to cover a wide range
of topics including different types of challenging behaviour, why it might
happen or reoccur, changes we can make, preventative plans etc.
The whole day is flexible and parent carers are welcome to
attend for the morning session, the afternoon session or for the whole day.
Parent Carers Voice is a friendly, independent, Devon
based network of parent carers of children and young people with additional
needs from 0 to 25 years old. Please
note that booking for all events is essential and we run many different events
across the county. For further details
