Pedestrian suffers serious head injuries after collision with car

A major road in Exeter was closed for eight hours after a serious collision involving a pedestrian.

A 48-year-old man was seriously injured in a collision with a red Nissan Primera outside the Vospers car garage on Marsh Barton Road at 6pm yesterday.

He was rushed to the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital with serious head and leg injuries.

He has since been transfered to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

A police spokesperson said: "The incident occurred around 40 metres from the junction with Trusham Road near to the Vospers car garage."

"A red Nissan Primera was travelling along Marsh Barton Road towards Alphington road when it collided with a male pedestrian."

Marsh Barton Road in Exeter was closed between the Exton Road junction and Seven Stars traffic lights until 2am today to allow police investigators to examine the scene.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or saw a man dressed in a dark suit to call 101 quoting police reference number 576 of 15/02/2012.
