A revamped Pillaton show returns next Sunday at a new venue just off the main A388 Saltash to Callington road at Trehill Farm, St Mellion. "It was the girls at the yard who were instrumental in getting the show up and running again," said show secretary Margaret Best, who runs a livery yard at neighbouring Sillaton Farm.

"The show has been running since the 1920s and has always been very well supported, with competitors coming from as far afield as Helston and beyond Exeter," said Margaret. The revised schedule has the usual classes of show jumping, showing, working hunter, fun classes and gymkhana but new is a class for ex-racehorses. There will also be a chase-me-charlie event in the showjumping ring. "We are hoping for lots of entries from both sides of the Tamar Bridge," added Margaret, who says entries can be taken on the day. Schedules are available at all tack and feed shops throughout the area. If there are any trophy winners from the last show in 2005, please could winners return them. Elder sister, Jessie, 16, was not to be outdone and lying sixth after the dressage rose to win the Intermediate Class on Andrea Bennett's 10-year-old bay gelding, Tredarvoe Talisman.

The seven-year-old Welsh Section B, who qualified at Malvern for the home produced final, won his class before taking the overall championship in the evening performance. The Trevenna's plan to take the stallion to tomorrow's Native Pony Association of Cornwall show to defend his title of Champion of Champions.
