Plans for 53 homes at Allenstyle refused by North Devon Council
A PLAN to build 53 homes in Yelland has been refused by North Devon Council.
The plans, which would have seen 53 homes built on land south of Allenstyle Road, was refused on Friday because the site falls outside of the development boundary identified in the existing North Devon local plan.

And even when the new local plan, which is currently in the public consultation phase, is adopted the land will still fall outside of the development boundary, making it unlikely an appeal against the decision would be successful.
Planning agent Maria Bailey said she had not yet spoken to the applicant, Len Tanner, about the decision.

"I don't know as yet whether the applicant will be appealing the decision," she said.
"We will be having a discussion about it later this week at some point but I'd have thought he'd be quite disappointed with the decision."
The decision notice issued to Mr Tanner and Mrs Bailey detailed how the site is technically, "in open countryside".
"The benefits of the scheme do not outweigh the harm caused," it said. "An insufficient affordable housing provision has been proposed for the proposal to be considered as an exceptions site.
"The proposal would extend the urban character of the area beyond its presently defined development boundary and would change the character of the surrounding landscape from rural to urban and not contribute to and enhance the natural and local environment."
The decision notice also detailed how plans for the site contained insufficient public open space and highway contributions.
