INTERNATIONAL Women's Day takes place on March 8 this year and is being celebrated with an evening of events at The Plough Arts Centre in Torrington.

Anne Tattersall has organised the line-up which will include talks from Britt Pfluger, director of Hardy & Knox Literary Consultancy, former nun Eileen Roddy and Journal editor Chloe Hubbard.

She now carries on the celebrations at her own home and said she wanted to put on an event this year to raise money for Margaret Brown's charity appeal.

"She was fantastic as my deputy and I said when she was mayor I would do some fundraising for it," said Anne.

"I think there are so many strong women in North Devon. It is a great way to celebrate women in all their guises."

There will also be an auction where people can bid on a vasectomy, a two night stay at Woolacombe Bay hotel, an MOT at New Road Garage in Torrington and more.

If anyone wants to make a bid for any of the auction prizes, they can contact Anne Tattersall at anne_communicate @hotmail.com

Tickets are available from The Plough and cost £10 for non-members.
