Plymouth Argyle bide their time on chief executive
Plymouth Argyle’s fight for Football League safety has delayed the appointment of a new chief executive at the club.
Owner and chairman James Brent has declared the “number one priority” of his board of directors is ensuring the Pilgrims are not relegated from npower League Two.

There has been a vacancy for a chief executive at Home Park since the departure of Martin Baker in December.
Chartered accountant Tony Brown, who has previously worked at Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff City, has taken on the role on an interim basis until the end of the season.

Brent said: “What we are focused on is trying to avoid relegation. That is the number one priority again.”
The Devon businessman has been Argyle’s owner and chairman since rescuing the club from administration in October 2011. Brent is keen to pass on the role of chairman to someone with more football experience than he has, but not right now.
He said: “I want to see us stabilise things and hand it over with the club in a happier state than is the case now. We [the board] are relatively open-minded about what to do. We could have an executive chairman working full-time.
“My personal preference, though, to be honest, is a full-time chief executive and a non-executive chairman providing challenge to the chief executive. That’s the model I like.”
Meanwhile, Argyle have extended the loan transfer of Reading striker Gozie Ugwu for a second month.
The period covers eight League Two games up to and including the trip to Chesterfield on March 23.
Ugwu, 19, saw the start of his loan spell at Argyle disrupted by an ankle injury. He did not make his full debut for the Pilgrims until the 1-0 defeat by Oxford United at Home Park last Saturday.
Former Argyle left-back Robbie Williams has signed for League of Ireland Premier Division club Limerick. The 28-year-old had his contract with the Pilgrims cancelled by mutual consent last month.
Limerick are preparing for the start of the 2013 season, which will see them compete in top-flight football in the Republic of Ireland for the first time in 19 years. Limerick manager Stuart Taylor said: “We are delighted to get a player of Robbie’s talent and experience on board.”
Argyle will play a reserve-team friendly against Exeter City at Home Park on Monday, March 4 (kick-off 2pm). Last night, the Pilgrims won 7-2 at Carlsberg South West Peninsula League side Witheridge to book a Devon FA St Luke’s Challenge Cup semi-final assignment against the Grecians or Tiverton Town.
