Plymouth Argyle loan signing Lee Cox relishing Oxford United reunion

MIDFIELDER Lee Cox has had the chance to settle into his new surroundings at Home Park this week.

Cox will spend the rest of the season with Argyle after signing on loan from League One outfit Swindon Town last Friday.

The 22-year-old was thrown straight into the Pilgrims' side for their crucial 2-1 win at relegation rivals Aldershot Town the following afternoon.

Now Cox is set to make his home debut for Argyle when they play Oxford United tomorrow.

He knows all about the U's because he spent the first five months of the current campaign on loan to them.

Cox told Herald Sport: "Last weekend was a bit of a blur, just with how quick everything went.

"I have had a good week of training and it has really helped me. I have got to know the lads and it's made me a lot more confident."

Cox has already played once at Home Park this season, for Oxford in a Johnstone's Paint trophy last 16 tie in December.

The former Inverness Caledonian Thistle midfielder started the game, which ended in a 1-1 draw and the U's came out on top 3-1 in the penalty shoot-out.

Oxford had four successive victories up to and including a 2-1 win at home to Bradford City on January 12.

That put them within two points of a play-off position, and they had played fewer games than the teams above them.

However, Oxford have lost four and drawn one of their last five fixtures and, points wise, are now closer to the relegation zone than a top seven spot.

Cox made 17 starts and two substitute appearances for Oxford before his loan ended on January 1.

Now, less than seven weeks later, he is getting ready to play against the U's.

Cox said: "They have got some very good individual players and some good honest lads.

"In the time while I was there the results were a bit up and down but there is definitely good quality at that club. It will be a very interesting game.

"If I'm starting tomorrow they won't be my friends on the pitch. I think that's the professionalism footballers have to have.

"It will happen week in, week out where players are up against people they know."

One of Oxford's main threats is striker James Constable and he is someone Cox knows well.

Cox said: "I'm good friends with James Constable. I used to travel in with him every day. I know a lot of his strengths.

"He is a danger. He's strong and powerful and can score goals so he needs to be marked.

Cox has already noticed similarities between Argyle and Oxford, who have both played at a much higher level in the past before falling on hard times.

He said: "Having come to Plymouth and seeing the stature of the club, it should definitely be a lot higher than what it is. It's the same with Oxford. They have got good facilities and a good stadium."
