Former Plymouth Argyle striker Rhys Griffiths signs for Newport County
FORMER Argyle striker Rhys Griffiths has signed for promotion-chasing Football Conference club Newport County.
Griffiths, 32, was set to train with his new team-mates for the first time today, ahead of their away game against Woking tomorrow.
Newport are in fourth position in the Conference, five points behind leaders Grimsby Town but they have played one match fewer.
Griffiths, 32, had his contract at Argyle cancelled by mutual consent last month because he did not figure in the first team plans of manager John Sheridan.

Newport boss Justin Edinburgh said: "Rhys is a proven goalscorer and when we knew that he could become available we kept an eye on the situation.
"He just adds another dimension to the team and he will score goals. We are delighted to have him on board going into a crucial part of the season."
Griffiths (pictured) was signed by Argyle from Welsh Premier League club Port Talbot Town last summer on a one-year contract after a trial period.
He put his career as a firefighter in south Wales on hold to move into professional football for the first time.
Griffiths went on to make seven starts and 10 substitute appearances for Argyle and scored three goals.

“Clearly Rhys won't be reading this awful Janner rag but if he did my one piece of advice after watching him play for Argyle a few times would be: put some effort in and don't be as lazy as you were here.”
