Plymouth New Year's Eve sees string of drink-related offences
POLICE in Plymouth have said they were kept busy over the New Year's Eve period with a host of alcohol-related incidents.
Around 30 people spent the night in cells at Charles Cross police station for a variety of crimes, ranging from drink driving, common assault, domestic violence and being drunk and disorderly.

A police spokesman said: "The vast majority of the cases police dealt with on New Year's Eve were related to drunkenness. Many of those arrested were not known to the police before.
"There were a number of public order matters and minor assaults. This was not high jinks, this was more to do with people being drunk and being unable to control themselves."

Other arrests were made for offences including criminal damage, causing grievous bodily harm, domestic violence, public disorder and drink driving.
The spokesman said: "Many of the incidents were relatively minor, but alcohol was a predominant factor in almost every arrest made on New Year's Eve."
One reveller told The Herald she witnessed one of the brawls which took place at Derry's Cross in the early hours of New Year's Day.
The young woman, who asked not to be named, said: "At around 3am I was leaving Grosvenor casino and saw a big crowd of men fighting on the crossing just outside.
"It seemed to start off as just handbags, but more and more men joined in and it got more serious. There was lots of pushing and swearing.
"Bouncers from Revolutions came over to try and break them up and then shortly afterwards the police riot van came."

“Quite surprised anyone got in to trouble, quite surprised any one went out after all the panic mongering by the Police etc.
Out alone, your gonna get raped/mugged/beaten up.
****walk etc.
I saw virtually no one walking home, Plymouth was a new years eve ghost town outside establishment walls.”

“@sidewinder
I agree with you, the 'chavvy' culture, it's also reflected in other stories on this site..petty thefts, drunken beatings and spitting if you ever.
What sort of schools do these people come out of?
What sort of upbringings were they dragged through.
What on earth makes them think that they can behave like this?
The other day I read the story of the 'crackhouse' closure of a barbican property because the tenant had made neighbours' lives a misery for 3 YEARS!
Plymouth...City of culture.
At least they'll fix the potholes then, wouldn't want the judjes seeing those.”

“I have not got an issue with the Alcohol or the price of it, its those that consume it and behave like animals, they are the ones that need to be gripped, plenty of folk can enjoy a drink and remain Gentlemen regardless of the price, there is a chavvy culture of selfish arrogant rude youngsters who have no respect for anybody or anything, its worse now then it ever has been in the past, and people like me are totally sick of it.
Those individuals that plague this city with their antisocial behavior should go to JAIL.”
