CITY crews were called to Modbury to assist in a barn fire over the weekend.

In the early hours of Saturday morning crews from Modbury, Ivybridge, Plymstock, Plympton and Greenbank were called to the fire in Torr Down in Modbury.

Nigel Toms, the officer in charge and watch manager for Modbury, said: "It was one of those jobs in the middle of nowhere with not a lot of water nearby.

"We maintained an attack to stop the fire spreading; we were up against it for a while but no one was injured, which was the main thing."
