Plymouth teenagers can gather at new shelter in park
A NEW youth shelter has been installed at a Plympton park.
Teenagers in the area can now benefit from the new youth shelter at the Linkety Lane end of St Mary's Park thanks to local agencies and organisations working together.

This installation is a crime prevention initiative by PCSO Elaine Hesketh, of Plympton.
PCSO Hesketh said: "As a Police Community Support Officer I have received a number of complaints regarding teenagers using the small children's play equipment at this location to sit on in the evenings and at weekend, often leaving litter and occasionally broken bottles.

"Not long ago a train was set alight and destroyed. Luckily this has now been replaced.
"Members of the Plympton Neighbourhood Policing Team often patrol this area and if found, ask youths to leave this play area."
At a Have Your Say meeting held in the summer last year for residents of St Maurice and Underwood, the issue of lack of youth facilities was raised by residents.
One resident offered to raise funds for a youth shelter.
PSCO Hesketh had been trying to get a youth shelter installed at this location to draw youths from the children's play area.
She made her request to Plymouth City Council and the final hurdle was the cost of the installation.
In October 2012 Cllr Terri Beer and Cllr Ian Darcy received additional funding which they designated to the installation. The local residents association SMART, the St Mary's Area Residents Team, also provided funding for a bin to be installed.

“Which twit came up with this idea? To stop them vandalising the park, we will put up a shelter for them? Now they will vandalise the park and take cover in the shelter from the flames.
Which planet are you all from?”

“I have seen this shelter myself. I dont know how much it cost. But im sure it will be lovely in the summer. But freezing & windswept at this time of year, not sides so wouldnt appeal to my teenagers. By the way when can we have something built for us middle aged working tax paying people who would like a shelter. Heated preferably :)”
